latex compound moulds

rubber school bell, beer bottle and disposable coffee cup, latex moulding compound, 2010

Rubber: elastic and warm, organic (sort of) is an intriguing material. The choice of a bell was inspired by Paul Butler who suggested contributing a piece to a time capsule to be installed at the opening of the new Plug In ICA building in Winnipeg. The school bell somehow relates to Paul's project Reverse Pedagogy, though I'd be hard pressed to say how exactly.

The time capsule project did not happen, unfortunately, so these things are just there now, nowhere really. They are not actually rubber but latex. They relate to my earlier 90s casts somewhat though they aren't casts but something closer to moulds.
